Help Students Take Ownership of Their College Process

Corsava Cards engage students in fun activities while encouraging them to reflect deeply about what they are looking for in their college experience. Go from overwhelmed (“where do I start!?”) to focused as you get everyone on the same page in a positive way.

The college counselors who built Corsava focused on the key factors they know help students discover and get admitted to colleges where they will thrive and graduate. Corsava Cards introduce aspects of college that counselors know from experience, as well as studies, correlate to whether students thrive in life after college.

Parents love watching their students go through the card sort, commenting that they wish they had had Corsava to help them explore their options, and most commonly… “I had no idea that was important to you!”

What are Corsava Cards?

Corsava Cards are designed to introduce students to a broad scope of college characteristics, encouraging them to think beyond name recognition, size, and location. For each characteristic, students indicate a preference of “Must Have,” “Would Be Nice,” “Do Not Care,” or “No Way.”

How do you use Corsava Cards?

Ask the student to place each card under the choice card that best reflects their emotional preference for that particular characteristic. Encourage your student to ask questions and talk through their thought process as they sort the cards.

What our families say

I honestly cannot think of any individual tool in the college admissions process that is as impactful as Corsava.”

The most fun way to start working with a slightly nervous high school student is to break out the cards and say, “Let’s start with a card game!” Handing a student a whole deck of cards and watching while they pick and choose the elements they want in their university experience is such fun. By the time they chose their 5 “deal-breakers,” we’ve got a colorful list of personal requirements for starting to build a list of colleges. Sometimes students will come back from visiting colleges and say, “I need to re-do my card sort; I’ve learned about so many things I didn’t know were important to me.” That’s great too. Putting the deck of cards into a student’s hand is a metaphor for handing them the tools for making their own choices and decisions. It’s empowering!”
We really enjoyed doing the card sort and have already found some surprising answers. I’ve shared this resource with MANY friends!”
The Corsava Card activity easily shows what really matters to the student in the college search, often crystallizing the ideas or feelings that they couldn’t put into words. Once they see the list of what is important to them, it is much easier for them to focus their college search. The cards are fast, fun and help reduce some of the stress in the college process. I highly recommend them! “

When I began counseling students 18 years ago, I needed a way to quickly engage them while making the college process more fun and less overwhelming. What better way than a card game to serve as the perfect ice-breaker while encouraging students to open up and share their personal preferences for college in a positive way? Each card is designed to build awareness about critical aspects of the college experience that drive student success but are often overlooked in their college search process. I love how students' eyes light up when they see the cards!
